Overview

Male’ Water and Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd (MWSC) provides drinking water to Male’ City, Capital of Maldives (having a population of around 150,000) together with Villimale and Hulhumale’. Collectively these three islands are referred to as Greater Male’ (aggregate present population is estimated at about 175,000).

The islands are in close vicinity of each other and are separated by narrow but deep sea channels. Each of these islands presently has independent water production and distribution facilities. While the demand in Male’ and Villimale have reached its designed capacities there is no space to add on new storage facilities or production facilities in these locations. MWSC is also providing water services in K. Thilafushi and K. Gulhifalhu. Together with these two island the Area is referred as “GREATER MALE’ REGION”.

Engineering Services
  • Analyze 30-year population trends and forecast water demand for various uses in Greater Malé islands.
  • Survey and map optimal pipeline routes, ensuring safe, cost-effective water transfer with bathymetric analysis.
  • Develop preliminary designs for alternative submarine pipeline routes to meet community water flow needs.
  • Determine pipe type, size, engineering specs, and anchorage details for stability against ocean currents and reef conditions.
  • Design protective measures against fishing equipment and vessel anchoring along the pipeline route.
  • Identify and specify necessary onshore structures for pipeline integration.
  • Specify pumps, capacities, valves, and ancillary equipment for efficient water transfer.
  • Document submarine pipe laying methods and execution guidelines.
  • Recommend at least three qualified contractors with relevant experience for project execution.
  • Identify at least three suppliers for pipes, pumps, and equipment, including contact details.
  • Provide the final design, work methodology, technical specifications, BOQ, and cost estimate for the best route.
  • Submit a quote for overseeing the submarine pipeline execution.
  • Develop a practical execution schedule for the submarine pipeline project.
